What is an implant retained overdenture?

An implant retained overdenture is a denture that clicks into dental implants that are placed in the jaw.

The advantages of overdentures are the following:

  • Better stabilization of the denture while eating and speaking
  • Preservation of the jaw bone over time
  • Has a more “natural feel” than traditional dentures
What is a partial denture?

A partial denture is a removable appliance that replaces some missing teeth. It can either have natural colored clasps, or metal colored clasps. It is supported by a person’s teeth.

What is a complete denture?

A complete denture is a removable appliance that replaces the entire teeth on the either or both of the jaws. In this situation, the person no longer has any natural teeth remaining.

What is an acrylic denture?

An acrylic denture is a prosthesis that is made of acrylic, which provides a more rigid base.

What is a flexible denture?

A flexible denture is a prosthesis that is made of a flexible base material. It has a more esthetic appearance in that there is no metal in it.

What is a flipper?

A flipper is a temporary solution to a missing tooth. It is quite often a single tooth removable denture that is used primarily for cosmetic purposes until the final restoration is made. We offer same day flippers in emergency situations.

Does a denture come in and out of the mouth?

Yes, a denture comes in and out of the mouth.

Can I sleep with my dentures?

It is not advisable to sleep with dentures. The undersurface of the denture must be cleaned to remove any food particles and foul smelling odors. In addition a painful fungus can grow in the mouth if the gums are not allowed to “breathe.”

Do I need to use glue with my dentures?

In most instances no. However, each situation is unique and should properly be evaluated by your dentist.
